The Story
Mareb Kurashvily, 36-year-old Soviet exchange student, center, wearing Russian-style cap, pile-lined coat and a brown scarf pulled up high to cover a bandage on his throat, is surrounded by U.S. and apparent Soviet security personnel as he heads for Aeroflot plane departing for Russia early Thursday morning at Kennedy airport in New York. Kurashvily, who had slashed his wrists and throat last Sunday, was allowed to leave the U.S. after telling U.S. Immigration officials that he was going of his own free will.
