Members of the staff of the US engineers in the background check water surface elevation on a scale model of the Mississippi river near Angola. Purpose of the station is to conduct a scientific study of flood control and navigation. The station is the largest of its kind in the world and carries on research in the field of soil mechanics as well as hydraulics.
