The Story

Redmond was Captain of the Wichita, a government owned freighter which had recently left Baltimore, Maryland with a cargo of machine guns, barbed wire and 19 planes headed for China. It was unloaded instead in Los Angeles, California, where the photo was taken after the unloading, on account of the President ordering that no Government owned ship could transport war goods to combatants. Hugh Middleton was the district freight agent for the Pan Pacific Line
